    Short distance moving tips

    By Maria S. | Moving | 0 comment | 24 August, 2018 | 0

When it comes to moving we all know that it can be really stressful. From the day you decide to move to the day when you start unpacking in your new home or office. However, some good tips and tricks moving can be even fun. Short distance moving is way easier then long distance moving for numerous reasons. One of those reasons is as the word alone says it is a short distance move. This means that the finish line is closer and that your move will be way faster than a long distance one, which is pretty obvious. What is very important with short distance moving, that a lot of people take for granted, just because they think that they will finish the move quickly is staying healthy while moving, which is extremely important. Here you can find some useful tips on how to make your short distance move, healthy, easy and maybe even fun.

Short distance moving shouldn’t be fast

Even though you are moving not far away from your current home or office, you should know that when people do things fast they tend to get hurt and make mistakes. There is no hurry. If you want to do your move in the right way, then you should take your time. When you start packing make sure you have enough boxes for your items and mark them. Always mark them, especially when it comes to fragile things. You want to know with which box to be extra careful. Also, make sure to clear your path.

Make sure you pack smart and carefully.

When you start moving boxes from your current home to the moving van make sure that your path is clear. Anything that you can trip on should be removed, also if you have children or pets move them somewhere safe where they cannot get hurt and where they cannot bother you while you are moving. However, if you want and need to make your short distance move fast then consider hiring professionals for local moves who will move you in a timely manner.

    Create a to-do list

    a to-do list

Making a moving to-do list can be very helpful for tracking you relocation progress

One of the important things to do when moving, whether is short distance moving or long distance, is to create a moving checklist. This checklist will serve you as a reminder of everything you need to do while moving. Forgetting things while moving just won’t do. So, make a checklist that should look something like this:

    • Buy moving boxes
    • Find markers
    • Rent moving blankets
    • Hire movers at least two weeks before the actual move
    • Check movers license and insurance
    • Get enough packing paper

Write whatever that you may find relevant for your move. A to-do list means a lot when you are in the process of moving. It will remind you of all the things that are a must. Nowadays people are using their smartphones as a reminder, but nothing beats pen and paper where you can write down anything you need in a matter of seconds.

    Check out the new place

Before you start the process of moving, make sure to go and check again your new home or an office. Take some measures if possible. You will want to know what can fit where before you start bringing things in. Also, in this way you can declutter your things before you move. There is no need to move absolutely everything to the new place. So, check your new place and imagine what can be put where. When it comes to your clothes and other minor items decluttering is definitely the best option. Of course, do not throw anything away, when the clothes are in a good state you just don’t wear it anymore it will be welcomed by someone in need. Especially warm coats and shoes.

    Pack smart

When you start packing you should do it in such a way to know one hundred percent what is where. As we already mentioned marking boxes is the key. Also, if you are hiring movers you should hire a couple of them and just one van. There is no need for more, especially when you will probably participate in your move. Calling friends for help is a good option as well. It all depends on how many things do you have. When we say that you should pack smart, we mean that you should pack one handbag that you will have with you for the first couple of days in your new home. That bag should have things like:

    • toothbrush,
    • paste,
    • underwear,
    • Change of clothes.

This will make your transition to your new home way easier, and you won’t get mad looking for that one box among six boxes that contains your toothbrush. Even though they will be marked it can get confusing on where are those small items. This doesn’t mean that you should get lazy, start unpacking slowly from the day one.

Short distance moving can be really easy. Especially if you are hiring movers. Even if you are moving on your own or with help of some friends you can make your move easy and entertaining. So, don’t be stressed, just because everyone says that moving can be stressful. Short distance moving can really be a piece of cake if you arrange everything right. Take your time, pack at your own pace and you will move in a no time. And some of the last minute moving tips – Do not forget that on the day of the move, you have to eat and drink so that you have enough strength and energy so that everything goes as planned.
