Questions you should ask your movers before you hire them

    By Maria S. | Common moving problems | 0 comment | 11 February, 2020 | 0

Hiring a moving company is a must if you want to move to another location safely and with no problems. However, not all moving companies are the same. Some of those moving companies don’t have all the options you need, some of them don’t serve in the wanted area, and some of the ‘moving companies’ are just scams. So, to have a successful relocation, here are some questions you should ask your movers before you hire them. Without further ado, let’s begin.

    1. Is your moving company properly licensed? – the first question you should ask your movers

Like in every business, there are some people and groups who call themselves companies, who are doing business on the fringes of the law. The same goes for the moving companies. So, before you hire a moving company, you should always ask them if their moving company is properly licensed according to law. Any proper moving company should have a US Department of Transportation number issued by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. You can always check this number online, and you can check, at any time, the validity of the moving company in question. Also, good proof of the validity of a moving company is the membership in the American Mover and Storage Association. Don’t be afraid to ask them for proof of their validity. Try to avoid moving scams.

Moving companies have to be properly licensed before they can start working. There is a high chance that a moving company is a scam if they don’t have the right paperwork.

    2. Do you have the right equipment?

There are many kinds of customers and customers have a wide variety of items in their possession. And not every moving company has the right kind of equipment for your items. Many moving companies have basic equipment, and that basic equipment is often not enough for every kind of item. Also, you have to know just how many trucks they have, and how many trucks will be available for your upcoming relocation. If you’re moving from an apartment, that shouldn’t be an issue. But if you are moving to a large house, every bit of available space counts. So,  one of the questions you need to ask your movers is definitely if they have the right equipment for relocation.

    3. Do you have the storage facility?

Most moving companies have a storage option. Storage is very important. Yes, it is possible to move from one place to another without storage, but it is not recommendable. This is true if you’re moving from a small apartment to a larger one or a house. That way, you can put all of your things in your new home. Usually, relocation requires a storage solution. And sometimes, moving companies don’t have a storage option. That means one of two things. Either you are going to hire a separate storage solution, or you are going to try and find another moving company. We recommend the latter.

Ask your movers if they have the right storage solution for your upcoming relocation. Remember, storage is very important!

    Conclusion

Asking all the above-mentioned critical questions is the right way leading to finding reputable and reliable movers who can provide you with the service you need. Do not rush the process and you will minimize the chances of making the wrong choice.
