Moving to Texas – how to find the right mover?

    By Maria S. | Moving | 0 comment | 5 July, 2019 | 0

Moving to Texas can be both an exciting and daunting process. It is exciting because you will be moving to an amazing state, turning a new leaf and starting fresh.  But daunting and stressful at the same time because you have to find the right mover that is both reliable and affordable and prepare for the whole relocation experience itself. Sometimes the process of moving can be just as hard as finding the proper moving company. You can no just hire the first company you find. You have to do a lot of researching in advance. That means, asking around, doing a background check, comparing the prices and bids and so much more. But, do not worry. It is possible to find the right mover. And here are some tips and tricks for doing it.

Start looking for the right mover ahead of time

First things first, you must do your research. And you can not do it in the last minute. If you start looking for a moving company ahead of time, you will have more options. That means more companies to compare and choose from. Also, many companies will give you some sort of discount for early booking, which is another great way to save money. And, if you leave everything for the last minute, there will be no time to find the right mover. You just have to be satisfied with whatever you get. So, be smart. As soon as you set your moving date, start researching. There are a lot of pros of moving to Texas this year, so be sure that many people will do the same as you.

    A man doing a research

The best way to find the right mover is to start looking for them ahead of time.

Get recommendations to find the right mover

The next step is getting recommendations from the people you trust. Call everybody you know. Friends, family members, neighbors, colleagues and everybody you know who moved recently. It is of key importance to talk to people. See what their experiences have been. If something bad happened, ask them for an explanation. It is likely that somebody had a bad moving experience with a great company. Or somebody had a blast with some relatively new and inexperienced company. This is why getting recommendations from the people you trust is very important if you want to find affordable moving assistance in Austin or anywhere else in Texas.

Go online to find the right mover

However, if you were not lucky enough to find somebody who moved recently, then you have to turn to the good old internet research. That means checking each and every company online. What you need to do first is to check the company’s website. Make sure to read all the information posted there. Check their page and look at what services they provide. Then check the comments section and read everything, both good and bad. Bear in mind that one bad comment does not define the company. If something bad happened, do not walk away immediately. See what went wrong and how the movers fixed the problem. Moreover, if a company does not have a website, it is probably a scam and you should stay away from it. And after you have checked the website, it is advisable to look them up on social media and different forums.

Each moving company should have a website and a social media account.

    Ask for an in-home estimates

So now that you have done your research and got all the recommendations from the people you trust, it is time to make a selection. Choose at least two or three moving companies that you think will suit your needs the most. Then call them and ask for an in-home estimate. This is a great way to find out how much this moving experience will cost you. That is, you will know the final price and avoid any unpleasant surprises on a moving day. Sometimes, a company will offer an online estimate or over-the-phone estimate. Avoid those as they are never correct. So, when a mover does come to your house to give you an estimate, make sure to show him or her every single item you plan on relocating. Do not forget the attic, the basement, and the garage. Also,  while the mover is there, ask about all the additional fees.

It is important that the mover knows exactly how much stuff you plan on relocating. That way, you will know the correct final price.

See what is included in the price

Sometimes the price may seem too low or too high, and you do not understand why. Most of the time, that is because they either include or do not include all the additional prices and fees. And those can really make a difference. So, it is really important to ask your mover what is included in the price while he or she is giving you an estimate. Aks about the following services and how much they cost:

    • Providing packing materials
    • Packing and unpacking
    • Disassembly and reassembly of furniture
    • Handling of bulky items
    • Appliance servicing
    • Hoisting
    • Renting a Moving Truck
    • Taking Items up  the stairs
    • Carrying Items for along distance
    • Shuttle services
    • Waiting or re-delivery
    • Warehouse handling

    Compare the Bids

Only one more step left, and you will find the right mover, that is both reliable and affordable. Now that you have met the movers in person and got their in-home estimates, it is time to compare the bids and moving quotes. Do not look just at the final price. As previously mentioned, you have to look at what is included in the price, that is if they included the additional fees as well. Moreover, if you think that the price is too high, maybe you are dealing with fraudulent movers. And if you think that the price is too low, maybe you are dealing with inexperienced movers. It is always best to choose the golden middle.
