Moving to Raleigh, NC with kids – tips and tricks

    By Maria S. | Common moving problems | 0 comment | 5 June, 2019 | 0

Moving is very stressful. Add the children and it becomes significantly more stressful. Even if the move is local, little kids know how to make it feel like it’s across the world. And if you are a single parent, you can only imagine how tough that can be. Luckily, there are certain things you can do to make it easier for you and your child. These tips and tricks will work great if you are moving to Raleigh, NC with kids.

    Before moving to Raleigh

When moving to Raleigh, NC with kids, proper preparation is a must. Here is what you need to pay attention to during the initial phase of the moving process.

Inform your child that you are moving and where

If you are moving to Raleigh from another state you want to show your child how beautiful and fun North Carolina is. North Carolina is a state situated in the southeastern region of the United States. Raleigh is the capital of the state but Charlotte is the largest city. NC has a wide range of elevations and landscapes, which means it’s perfect for families with children. The climate in North Carolina also makes it perfect for camping trips and outside sports. Summers are hot and humid and the winters are mildly cold with snow on the mountains. So if you like skiing, you can do it here. North Carolina is situated on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean which means you can go to the beach during summertime.

Showing your child how beautiful NC is will make it excited for the move.

Telling your kids about the place you are moving to will make them feel more comfortable when you arrive there. But it’s pointless to do this if your kids are under three years old. These kids are too young to have any problems adjusting to the new surrounding as they don’t understand a lot yet. Moving with a toddler is a completely different topic.

Tell your kids about the new home and their new rooms

Children are easy to interest in something. Showing the new house to your child and his/her new room before the move will make it much easier once you arrive. How so? Well, it won’t be so new to them after all. Also, kids have a beautiful imagination. While you are showing the house to your kids talk about what you are going to put where and what you will do once you arrive. For example, when showing the living room, talk about how you are going to watch cartoons together and play board games. This will make your kids look forward to arriving.

Now that you’ve told your child about the move it’s time to start planning everything and moving. The next thing you need to do is find affordable moving services in NC.

Include your child in everything that you do

Including your child in everything that has to do with the move is a nice way to make it excited and happy to move. Kids are able to make any form of activity into a play. Let your child have fun even when hiring moving experts in Raleigh NC and when you are decluttering and packing your belongings. This also makes nice quality time for the whole family.

    Packing for moving to Raleigh

Children can find packing to be fun. It’s sort of like putting together plastic blocks. Make it even more fun by playing some music while packing. You can place the boxes around the house forming a maze or build a fort. But be careful not to damage or break anything, or even worse get hurt. The same goes for unpacking. Make sure you have fun tape and scissors. Let your child paint the boxes and draw on them while you are doing something it can’t do. If moving to Raleigh, your child can draw beaches and mountains on the boxes.

Make the last memories in the old house last

By this we mean have fun. Don’t let the stress of moving get you down and spoil the excitement. Moving should be seen as exciting. Exactly how children usually see it. A new chapter in your lives. But this doesn’t mean leaving the old chapter closed forever. While you are still at the old house, make the best memories. Eat take-out food, have ice cream, watch movies every night. You don’t want your child to forget the old place. But have in mind that the first few days or even weeks in the new house have to be good ones too. So do your best to keep your family healthy during and after the move. It’s easy to stay healthy when moving to Raleigh as you can do a lot outside.

    Prepare for moving to Raleigh

Make sure you have everything you need when moving. Children are demanding so make sure you bring snacks and toys for the travel to the new home. If you are moving to Raleigh by car, you will be able to look out of the window and see the beautiful scenery that will make you fall in love with NC. Make sure you stop regularly to use the bathroom. Maybe even a few times to take some pictures along the way if possible. Anything that you think will make your child sit still is more than welcome. Bring some clothes with you, books, games. The more entertainment the merrier. Search online to find some games you can play along the way. Bringing a map and looking at the mountains and what their names are can be very fun and educational for both you and your child.
