Moving to Australia – What you need to know

    By Maria S. | Moving | 0 comment | 24 April, 2018 | 0

With its sunny weather and beautiful beaches, Australia is a perfect place for living. That is why every year thousands of Americans consider making Australia their new home. However, moving to Australia is not the easiest thing to do. Whether you are considering moving to a small town, or a big one, here is what you need to know and consider when moving to Australia.

The Sydney Opera House is one of the reasons why moving to Australia is so alluring.

Moving to Australia is a lifelong dream for so many people!

Moving to Australia tip #1 – Finding a place to live

Perhaps due to its geographical position, Australia is a unique continent. The climate, for example, ranges from cold to hot. There are deserts and areas where no one lives, as well as very populated ones. That is why deciding where to live in Australia is very important!

    Choosing a city

Just like we mentioned, there are so many different cities in Australia to choose from! If you are a fan of the urban lifestyle, you should make some of Australia`s biggest cities your new home. These include cities such as Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, and Perth. Sydney, which is in the New South Wales, is the most populated area in Australia. That is why it is such a popular moving destination for so many people all around the world.

On the other hand, if you prefer peace and quiet, Australia has got you covered in that area, as well. Tasmania, which is not a part of Australia`s mainland, is a generally peaceful place. That is why if you are moving to Australia, we wholeheartedly recommend this island. You won`t regret it!

    Finding housing

When moving to Australia, doing the necessary research into its housing market is highly recommended. What you definitely need to be aware of is that many rental properties require 4 weeks worth of deposit. They also need a monthly rent in advance. If you decide to rent a place after moving to Australia, you should know that Australian apartments and houses come in three states:

    • After moving to Australia you can choose to live in a completely furnished apartment.
    • You can also choose to live in an unfurnished one, which comes with appliances but very little furniture.
    • Finally, you can decide on a completely unfurnished one, which has no appliances and no furniture.

On the other hand, if you decide to buy a house before or after relocating to Australia, you need to get familiar with the average house prices on this continent. Of course, the median house price varies greatly from city to city. That is why an average house price in Sydney is 920,000 dollars, and 504,000 dollars in Brisbane. In Hobart, the capital of Tasmania, the average house price is only 360,000 dollars. Of course, there are also price differences between houses and apartments.  What you settle for ultimately depends on your lifestyle and finances. However, having the general knowledge of the housing market cannot hurt.

Moving to Australia tip #2 -Learn about the Australian mentality

Due to its history, the Australians have a character of their own. Learning about their way of life can only benefit you when moving there. You want to learn about your new home as much as you can.

    All Australians are equal

Australia is an egalitarian country. What this means is that everyone is equal in Australia. Therefore, everyone has the same rights. Equality is one of the biggest reasons why moving to Australia is so popular. Australia is also a place where there is no discrimination between the races. Also, both sexes are equal in every aspect here. Australia serves as a true example of equality!

    The Australian humor

Getting familiar with the Australian humor is one of the most important things when living there. The Australian humor is dark and ironic by nature. They also tend to joke a lot about themselves. Why is it so important for you to learn about their humor before moving there? Well, that is because chances are that your sense of humor differs from theirs. You might get offended by something they jokingly say, which will create confusion. Making a problem out of an innocent thing is something you want to avoid.

The Australian humor is dark and ironic by nature. Learn as much about it as you can before moving to Australia.

Moving to Australia tip #3 – Be prepared for the hot weather

Even though you have already heard that the climate in Australia is tropical, chances are you are not aware exactly how hot it can get in Australia. Before your relocation to Australia, you need to know what to expect exactly. Summers can get extremely hot. It is not unheard of for temperatures to go into mid-forties during the summer. There is nothing that can prepare you for that much hotness. Even the average summer temperatures are high, going from mid to high-thirties. Are you wondering how to protect yourself from this ridiculously hot weather? Pay attention!

    1. Always wear sunscreen! Being protected from UV lights is the key to surviving a typical Australian summer.
    2. Protect your head by wearing a hat at all times. By doing so, you can prevent your head from overheating.
    3. Wear loose and light clothes. Avoid wearing dark and tight clothes by all means! It is the last thing you need.

Finally, remember to enjoy the weather after your relocation to Australia by going to the beach from time to time. There is nothing as satisfying as lying in the sun while enjoying a cold drink.

Those would be some tips to get you started in preparing for moving to Australia. The only thing left for you to do is to hire a good moving company. They will take care of your most precious things. And, enjoy every step of the way. Moving to Australia is a once in a lifetime experience. Hence, get the most out of your move and try to keep it stress-free. This is a good change in your life. Good luck!
