Moving season: Should you move this fall?

    By Maria S. | Moving | 0 comment | 28 September, 2018 | 0

There are many things you need to think about when moving home. Sometimes, it can seem like you are just fighting a rising tide of chores and tasks. You need to figure out the paperwork, find the right movers, pack and try to stay healthy while moving with all the rest happening. But one of the biggest problems you might face is picking the right time to move. The season in which you move will dictate a lot of things. Your budget, the weather, the speed of the move – everything will depend on whether you move during spring, summer, fall or winter. In this article, find out all the benefits you will get, and the reasons why you should move this fall!

Move this fall to have better control over the move

A calendar - so you can decide when to move this fall.

You decide when you will move this fall.

One of the most popular reasons for moving during the fall is the better control over the moving process. Since most moves happen over the summer – when the weather is nice – when the fall comes, the companies are met with fewer people needing their services. You should learn to use this opportunity for yourself.

First, you can earn some money by negotiating the price of your move. Whether you are doing a short or long distance move – the companies will fight for you. This is why you need to keep searching for the right one. Contact the representatives, compare bids, negotiate different deals. Who knows, maybe a company can offer you some extra services (like cheaper packing) if you pick them. Another reason why you should move this fall is that the cost of gas drops down too. With it, down to the costs of moving as well.

Another reason why fall is a great season for moving goes along with what we already talked about. Because the movers won’t have too many clients, you will be pretty flexible to arrange for the date you like. No more moving on the weekends or when the movers tell you they can pick you up – move this fall, and you will have the power to pick and choose your own date and time!

The fall is the best seasons for moving

Fall is a beautiful time to move.

Even more reasons for why you should move this fall are the weather conditions. When you are moving over the summer, you are constantly fighting the scorching heat. Even for short distance moving, this can be a big problem. It takes just one small trip from the truck and back home, and you are already drowning in your sweat and ready to call it a day. On the other hand, when you are moving during the winter, you need to think about dressing warmly. Then, you also need to worry about the icy roads, and how you are carrying the boxes. You never know when you will fall and damage something.

This is why fall is great – it’s between summer and winter both on the calendar, and the weather conditions. They are cold enough for you not to tire out easily and warm enough to be comfortable. You can enjoy the cool fall breeze while unloading the truck, and taking things to your new home. Even more, the sights you see when you move this fall will be amazing. The leaves turning golden and red will wait for you on every corner in the northern parts of the country. When you get tired from all the hustle of the move, just take a moment to breathe, relax and enjoy the nature.

    Watch out for the weather

The rain can damage your items.

One thing you need to think about when you move this fall is the weather. This might be the only drawback of moving during the season. The fall weather is often cool, but sometimes can be unpredictable. There are days when it can start pouring cats and dogs, and you need to prepare for these.

First, you should look into hiring professionals that can help you pack your belongings – they will know the best materials which will save your stuff from any weather. You will need some waterproof bags or boxes, to cover from the rain. You should get some sturdy boxes too, which will protect your items from the strong winds.

The second thing you need to look out for is the foliage. Even though they are beautiful, the leaves that fall may cause problems. You can trip over them, or the wind can bring them and the dirt into your truck, boxes or your home. In order to stop this from happening, take half an hour when you arrive to deal with the leaves before you start carrying things inside. Clean the pathway to the house and around the truck before you or the workers start carrying the boxes.

    Prepare to move this fall

Finally, once you are convinced to move this fall, it’s time to start preparing for it. First, when packing, be sure not to forget warm clothes. Even though it may be warm outside now, the weather can change in a matter of days. Bring coats, warm clothes, water-proof shoes, and umbrellas. Snow-removal gear and winter clothes are also a smart bet because the season is just around the corner. Sometimes, snow can surprise you, and you do not want to wake up in your new home and find it covered in snow – while you have nothing warm to wear.

This is why you should also set up your utilities in advance. By the time Evolution Moving or other great movers take you to your home, you should already have electricity and gas there. You do not want to find that you have no heating in your new, chilly house. Setting up a new utility account can take up to a few days, so make your calls before you move this fall. Figure out what paperwork you need to fill in and when is the proper time to do it. With some forethought and careful planning, your move will be as successful and stress-free as can be!
