Moving and storage tips for gallery owners

    By Maria S. | Specialty moving | 0 comment | 12 September, 2021 | 0

We have some tips for gallery owners prepared since we understand just how difficult their job can be. Moving pieces of art constantly for different setups can be quite challenging since most of them are pretty sensitive and breakable. Also, some like paintings for example are prone to ruin in case of mold breakage in storage space. There is one other thing that can be quite difficult – relocating those big art pieces. All that can be very hard so we are here to help at least with some tips and tricks. So read on!

    Temperature-controlled storage

One of the best tips for gallery owners we have is to find reliable temperature-controlled storage. Nowadays they are not hard to find and most likely if you call your local movers they will have the one for you. This is so important because the mold and moisture that happens in regular storage can ruin something very valuable so it’s important to invest a bit more money but to be sure that your art pieces will be safely preserved.

Some pieces of art like paintings need to be preserved in temperature-controlled storage or else they will be ruined.

    Hiring professional movers

Heavy lifting is ok to do on your own if you are carrying moving boxes full of clothes and such. Even if you drop them – no harm done. If they get dirty – you simply wash them. That is not the case with valuable paintings and such. That’s why the second tip for gallery owners is to hire professional movers every time you need to relocate some piece of art. But not all movers are good for that. You need to find ones that have this specific additional service since they have better equipment. Especially for the big, chunky, or heavy items.

    How to find reliable movers?

Finding reliable movers is not easy. Start locally of course or you can start by researching online. There are websites that are actually a base for movers and then you can look around. When you do find the ones that suit you, make sure to check the reviews they have gotten from the previous customers. This will give you better insight into their company and the way they treat customers. Their YELP review will also tell you a lot about them. Research is important before deciding on the right ones since the art you have is valuable and this is not your everyday relocation so take your time and investigate. The internet made it so easy for us so use that to your advantage now.

One last tip for gallery owners we have is to prep your art before storing it. The movers can help you with that and the packing of course but we suggest cleaning to be done by someone working in your gallery who knows the best way to do this without doing any damage.
